- Session 1:
IDENTITY is WHO and WHAT defines you? - 3 sources: (not that any are right or wrong, but what we’re capable of coming under influence of)
- 1) Internal identity: defined by the thinking.
- Who do I (you) think you are? How do you see yourself? You have an idea of who you are based off a perception of yourself (good or bad, we all have them). Do you see yourself in a Good or bad light? This is internal identity, our perception of ourselves.
- We see this in scripture:
- Moses: Exodus 4:10 “Oh my lord I am not eloquent either in the past nor since you’ve spoken to your servant; I am slow of speech and tongue” –
- But how did Heaven see him? Acts 7 “And Moses was instructed in all wisdom of Egyptians, and mighty in words and deeds”
- Moses sees himself as slow in speech and heaven sees him as Mighty in WORDS and deed.
- Internal identity is how we see ourselves vs how God sees us
- 2) External: Defined by what we do (performance).
- We often introduce ourselves in the western world by What we DO – Our family; how we live our christian life (I’m a christian), because we are so “Performance” driven; part of how we define ourselves.
- We see this in the life of Gideon. “The angel of the lord appeared to Him saying ‘oh valiant warrior’ but he responded by his external circumstances based on his family past and what all wrong was done, all the shadiness (bad habits, past experiences).
- Judges 6:15 “How shall I deliver Israel? I am the least and so is my father’s house?” He wasn’t doing anything that we as people would call him a warrior for, yet he was doing what Heaven saw him for.
- This is what we’re diving into, not what we see or the world sees, but how GOD sees us, bases upon our name (NAME=IDENTITY=in the name/identity of Jesus – based on how GOD sees us).
- Regardless of how we “feel or see” ourselves us, God’s perspective is the truth. Who GOD calls us is the truest identity.
- There are cast identities today, cultures (how do we view/see other people: ie: homeless man, etc) we judge people based on external because we look at performance: “how well do we follow Jesus, how many mistakes we make, marital status” – our past doesn’t define WHO we ARE. Our gender, age, color doesn’t matter define us.
- We want to move from the Internal and External to Eternal!
- We often introduce ourselves in the western world by What we DO – Our family; how we live our christian life (I’m a christian), because we are so “Performance” driven; part of how we define ourselves.
- 3) Eternal: God operates in Fullness (Internal and External are NOT complete).
- We cannot truly see ourselves the correct way unless we see ourselves through this Eternal Identity – which is HOW HEAVEN SEES ME.
- It isn’t that the Lord doesn’t love us how we are, rather He wants to liberate (release, free) the real me, showing me WHAT I look like in heavenly places. We need to talk about how we handle situations.
- Jesus is our model for heavenly identity. Matthew 3:17 “This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased” ..when Jesus hasn’t done ANYTHING, yet God was pleased with Him
- Therefore, just in the same way God is pleased with ME with being His child. It’s not about what I “do”, rather who “I AM” – this is the truest sense of who I am and where I should be living from. So when I begin to be distracted, (thinking or feeling something differently), take out the prophetic words and choose to Partner with God in your/my identity to walk them out.
- Right after Jesus received His identity, He was LED to the wilderness to be Tested! So as we hear our words and may be excited or afraid, we find that then we experience ‘the exact opposite’ in life and we ask “Why am I experiencing these things?” – because the enemy comes after us the same way as after Jesus, taunting us “Who do you think you are?!”
- But if they’re true words of God (we must learn to judge the word), it is a promise: a done deal.
- Matthew 4:3 “and if you’re the son of God, then (I dare you to) command this or that….” Yet Jesus used the Word (not scripture, as there was no bible back then) of God also, and stated/declared who HE truly was.
- Of course use scripture but understand that our “words” that we receive from God can and should be used the same way as we use scripture! (As a sword!)
- Matthew 16:13-18 Jesus asks His disciples who the people say who the Son of man is.. and with various replies He asks directly “who do you say I am” and when Simon responds, Jesus replied that the “Father in heaven has Revealed this to you Peter, and upon this Rock the gates of hell shall not prevail”
- Thus Jesus speaks identity into Peter. We cannot know truly our identity until we know WHO Christ is first. Then God comes and reveals WHO Peter truly is (Identity)
- The Who (Who CHRIST is) is what/who gets us into the kingdom of heaven first. But Who Christ says I AM, is what gets the Kingdom of Heaven IN ME and THROUGH me in authority.
- After Peter made the announcement who Christ was, Jesus was then able to reveal to Peter who HE actually was answering prophesies over Peter’s identity.
- Our heavenly (eternal) Identity is who we TRULY ARE!
- We cannot truly see ourselves the correct way unless we see ourselves through this Eternal Identity – which is HOW HEAVEN SEES ME.
- Why does our perception of identity really matter? Because it impacts our lives (our destiny) because IF we don’t walk into who we are then it stops us from moving forward into fulfilling it.
- 10 spies circulated a bad report saying “fruit is amazing and so is land, but there are giants” SEEING themselves as grasshoppers in the giants sight – attributing this to their identity, taking it on, seeing themselves as less than equal to the task, thus forfeiting their destiny because they didn’t believe who they were
- Joshua/Caleb saw who they were and thus were able to walk into their destiny because they saw and believed who they were
- Seeing will either promote us into our identity/calling or cause us to forfeit/lose it.
- (destiny= promises over my life, assignments [not the will of god which is for us to be conformed to the image of christ] but my specific tasks, assignments, because we cannot fulfill our destiny’s without understanding who we are) see footnote #1
- If we say we believe who we are (ie: I’m a peacemaker) then it means it’s something that should be coming out of me, not us trying to be, for HE begins to change us into our truest/eternal identity. But if we don’t actually live that way, its a sign we don’t actually believe it, but are paralyzed (via lies and fear) and thus not living out the fullness (of our calling/destiny/assignment).
- We will know who we believe (God or satan) by the actions we take, by the way we live, and the choices we make!
- Analyze my life to study/audit/judge/discern the fruit of who I am actually believing (not just saying or thinking that’s what I believe)
- We must be intentional with our identities in order for us to walk in and fulfill those assignments that He’s asked us to fulfill.
- Where do we discover our heavenly identities?
- 1) Scripture (our surname)
- Gives us the family name: body of Christ, ambassador, christian.
- Family all have attributes, we’re kin, our daughter/son/sister/brother – when others see us they see attributes of parents/siblings.
- We should look like (appear) as family as we all have access to ALL heavenly things as our inheritance
- 2) Prophesy (our first name)
- Speaks uniquely to our first name, our uniqueness who we are. What is that unique piece I have put in me to be uniquely expressed?
- 1 Tim 1:18: looking at prophesies to fight the battle well. Look at our prophetic words, recall them, think back and meditate on them in order to fight the battle well. Analyze them.
- 2 Cor. 5:16-16 “from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view, for a new creation has come, old has gone”. Our heavenly identity is the NEW me!
- 3) By our actual God given name (via parents)
- God comes and changes names and gives new names; showing differences between Paul and Saul, Simon and Peter, Abram and Abraham.
- Names are very important in scripture and identity of our lives.
Session 2:
TESTING WORDS
- Test all words: get rid of what’s not good and hold unto the good. Read through the words and ask yourself the questions below:
- Step 1: Judge the word:
- “Does this contradict the ‘nature or character’ of God?” (Is it an angry word? NT prophesy should be encouraging, strengthening, comforting)
- “Does this contradict scripture?” Does it say the opposite?
- “How does it “resonate” in my spirit? (Challenges me perhaps, but still resonates..)
- Step 2: Find the identity portion of your word
- Underline them and look for “overt (obvious)” identity words such as: “you are, God says you are, You are one who..”
- Or “implied” identity words that are based of what you’ll do: “be a bridge builder, bring together”. Look for “implied” identity based off of what I can/will do or be doing
- adjectives also count (“you are spectacular”, etc)
- adjectives also count (“you are spectacular”, etc)
- Step 3: Create bullet points
- Now look at those underlined parts and create bullet points for all those identity descriptions (ie: ‘you’re a bridge builder to bring people together’ = bridge builder, etc)
- Don’t put a lot of words here, just bullet points
- Step 4: Look at bullet points and create “I AM” statements
- Don’t just say “I am a bridge builder” but get into detail of how you’ll do it “I am a bridge builder who brings two ethnic groups together and …“
- Go into heaven (before God/Holy Spirit) and ask “what is this faithfulness, (etc) unto? What more do you want to say to me about this? What am/will I do with this?”
- What is this word (bullet point) connected to? What’s its purpose?
- Examples:
- “I am a worshipper and intercessor who ushers in the glory of God”
- “I am an apostolic person in the marketplace who does…”
- “I am a Debrah whose voice shakes the atmosphere through worship and intercession”
- “I am a glory carrier who ushers in the presence of God through worship and intercession”
- “I am a preacher who deposits what I carry into the hearts of my church family”
- Homework: anything that’s not finished today, do at home before next week’s sessions. Next week we will add on more steps so don’t fall behind, bring ready completed homework.
Session 3:
Crafting and Warring with your Identity statement
Step 5 – Take the I AM single line statements and Craft an Identity statement, creating something that resonates with you, meaning something to you.
- Use synonyms that make it really pop with your spirit, or even perhaps makes you uncomfortable because we haven’t quiet stepped into it (we know God sees us as that but haven’t yet walked it)
- You can use other words if that’s what you feel God is speaking to or about you, as long as it’s not way off.
- Ask the Lord how He would want you to craft it.
- IE: “there’s a heavy anointing upon your voice to speak into the nations… You’re voice is a sweeping movement going deep into the hearts of every listener, …pain leaves as healing takes over,..”
- An Identity Statement looks like what would appear in the back of a book, that’s how short it should be. 2-3 sentences so you’d be able to memorize it or read quickly, as this is what will be used to combat the enemy while on front lines.
- Look to see what are the I AM statements/points that really jump out at you or there are multiples of. The ones that jump at you now means that this is the season you’re in currently as God walks with you during this season.
- Multiples (ore similar repetitions) is a sign of Holy Spirit confirming what He’s said – 2-3 witnesses means their word is established, it’s like God putting a stamp of focus on what He’s cultivating in your life in this season or walk.
- If it is calling you forward (like a future word) but you believe or feel that it’s a NOW, then add it to your Identity Statement. (Leaving them out isn’t casting them out forever, rather, revisit them months down the road to determine if you’re still in that season or moving on, maturing into new depths)
- Identity Statements Need to be impactful, memorable, needs to resonate, and if a little bit uncomfortable perhaps, then you’re probably on the right track (even if you feel you’re not that person in manifestation yet, for God sees the heart) even if you have habits that contradict who you really are, for that’s how we War and Become our Identity so that it Emanates out of us.
- As we submit to God, we emanate what we really already are, like the sun that shines and warms. Our “Yes” to the Lord and us pursuing God is what causes us to become Who we are truly.
- As we love and behold Him, we then Emanate our Last name (Ambassadors of heaven) and First name (Personal identities), and as we look unto Jesus we transform into and rise up to who we are.
- These statements should be very practical (‘I AM’.. vs ‘the Lord says I am’..). Shouldn’t sound like a bullet point list.
JESSICA’S EXAMPLE OF “I AM” & IDENTITY STATEMENTS:

Step 6: Warring with your word.
- When we get a sovereign word from God (those are the words we do not want to help God along – or we’ll create Ishmael’s). We still have to partner with God, but not help Him along.
- Conditional words is what we must do (in partnership) in order for us to grow up in them.
- Our Identity Statements will only grow in and manifest through us if we partner with them and work out our discipline through seeking God and pursuing His heart.
- We must “war” with our words (identity statements) as we face challenges and trials which help shape and refine us into the manifestation of this Identity truth.
- 1 Tim. 1:18 “This command I entrust to you Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophesies previously made concerning you, that “by them” you fight the good fight.“
- We fight the good fight with warring with our identity.
3 A’s
- 1) Agreement : aggressively applying our faith to our heavenly identity.
- Aggressively. Not kind of. Read it like we mean it, like we believe it, with an “umph”! This is applying our faith to this statement. Then start believing that this is the Truest thing about me in the whole universe! (It doesn’t matter that we may have displayed a moment of weakness – ask forgiveness and move on; ur short comings are not who we are, those are occasional flareups of flesh; don’t wallow in it nor put yourself down).
- Read the statement, again and agin until we believe it in our core. As we say it over ourselves we’re literally speaking it into the atmosphere (rather than the negativity which we’re accustomed to spouting off), thus bridle our tongue and speak only life out of our mouths, speaking only heavenly identity and truth over ourselves. This is the “higher report”.
- Read it at bare minimum once a day, but through troubles read as many times as possible to rewire (renew) the mind, especially when we are hurt, offended, or hear contradicting words from others or experience from contradicting circumstances.
- (Be humble in heart and discern whether there’s merit of truth when someone approaches us about a situation we’ve been involved in. But also know when others are upset, offended, or hurt, thus spilling out their pain over you as a false identity).
- We can internally rebuke those “negative identities” spoken over us, and repeat WHO the Father says you are which has already been judged (the Word) and confirmed to fashion our hearts.
- 2) Alignment :
- Internal:attitudes and beliefs.
- What in my attitude and beliefs are not aligning with who God days we are? What actions don’t match with my identity?
- Putting off the worldly and putting on the heavenly. This is not who we’re becoming, this is who we Are. Jesus already sees us in the fulness of who we are.
- The peace that conforms us to His image. How do I respond when the atmosphere is pressing upon me – does it affect me or do I affect and change the atmosphere? How do we overcome when we get angry? (call Jesus and heavenly sphere into the current atmosphere, even if we have to deal with that situation later)
- We’re not saying we’re doing well at manifesting our new creation, rather displaying who we already are in Christs eyes.
- External Development: there’s usually a delay between promise and fulfillment!
- This is a gift from the Lord: the gift of development. This is our gift to develop in certain areas, it’s training in the area’s of what God says we are – we continue to say “Yes” and press into practice/discipline. This is agreeing and working WITH Holy Spirit.
- This is us practicing using the “tools” with Jesus everyday, through every circumstance, which matures us into becoming into the fullness of who we already are.
- Dan McCollum” created 52 sermons. On 53rd he got a phone call from pastor inviting to speak to youth group. He aligned with the word that said he would be preaching, so he practiced creating and giving sermons.
- If you have a teacher calling, find someone who has that gift and learn under them, seek books and training.
- Internally it’s the character that’s being developed. Externally it’s expressed through practice of belief, digesting though faith.
- Internal:attitudes and beliefs.
- 3) Appropriation (acting upon) : pushing out who heaven says we are through natural actions and demonstrations.
- IE: how alignment differs from appropriation: even if we’re externally aligning with identity (class or book), alignment is pulling heaven into me (about me, my growth, etc) when appropriation is pushing heaven outward (from within).
- Alignment is pulling heaven in, and appropriation is pushing heaven out of me through actions and demonstrations.
- Example of David: Got a call to be a king when a child, and then he aligned (agreed with it) to the heavenly identity by acting like a king well before he became king. Built an army, defended territories, etc. When the fulfillment came to take place, he was the sure choice, everyone noticed it and accepted it without fail.
- (How do you know someone is ready to be a pastor? When everyone else sees them as such. When they’re just acting upon it. The actual fulfillment is when you’re assigned or recognized as a pastor.)
- This is naturally practicing expression of what’s in your heart and faith, without others asking you or requiring you to. Natural expression of true heart.
- Pushing out favor, authority and influence to challenge my circumstances.
- David has opportunity to kill Saul but made a choice not to, aligning to build character: to do the right thing even as every else aligned to do wrong thing. David appropriated the faith (agreement), believed (aligned) and acted on it (appropriated).
- This isn’t being pompous about it and acting in entitlement mentality; rather through Humility, walking out in quiet authority, going low and being humble as God allows the Lord to raise us up in due season. Allow the Lord to do His work for other people to recognize what I am doing.
- Pastor Tony Kim: sat in the back watching, observing, serving, waiting. And the Lord every single time would elevate him because of his humility. It wasn’t a posture of “I’m His son so I will sit up front”. He also received watches for God displayed His love for Tony this way as Tony loved watches and knew the value of them.
- Just know who you are and walk that out in humility, and Jesus will lift us up in due time. The enemy see’s and knows our identity and will attack mostly in those areas of our life to trip us up the most! This is a sure sign that the Word is judged correctly so get back up and march on, speaking identity over all circumstances and against all feelings of chaos and confusion.
- IE: how alignment differs from appropriation: even if we’re externally aligning with identity (class or book), alignment is pulling heaven into me (about me, my growth, etc) when appropriation is pushing heaven outward (from within).
